UK Business Council for Sustainable Development

Creating a UK sustainability superpower

Our economic modelling shows Britain could unlock more than £70 billion of economic benefits a year if it adopts the right policies to become a world leader in clean energy.

Be The Best Communications has been a strategic communications adviser to the UK Business Council for Sustainable Development since 2021.

The World Business Council for Sustainable Development is a global network of more than 400 businesses with a combined annual revenue of more than $8.5 trillion.

The council exists to put forward solutions to tackle climate change, nature loss and societal inequality.

The UK’s Business Council for Sustainable Development has operated for more than two decades and includes among its members property developers, consultants and contractors committed to sustainability including: Etopia, Prologis, Sir Robert McAlpine, Equans, Clean Planet Energy, CBRE, Jacobs, WSP, Planning Portal and Bloor Homes.

During this time Be The Best has provided expert PR support including the creation of economic impact reports and analysis of Government policy which have generated support from national media, nationally recognised MPs and senior business leaders.

Be The Best carried out economic modelling of leading UK sustainability initiatives and produced a 24-page report which highlighted that The UK could unlock more than £70 billion of economic benefits a year if it adopts a bold strategy of going “beyond net zero” to become a world leader in clean energy.

Our Sustainability Superpower UK report revealed that Britain would create an additional 279,000 jobs (and support a total of 654,000 British jobs) across clean energy industries by adopting our range of policy suggestions.

The report found that Britain’s potential to generate huge amounts of clean energy would turn the UK from a net importer of energy to one exporting “vast amounts” of clean power, worth £17bn a year, to mainland Europe.

Our Sustainability Superpower UK report, sponsored by Prologis and Inspired Plc was launched at the UK’s largest real estate and infrastructure event, UKREiiF.

Be The Best also handled media relations for the launch and secured coverage on the front page of The Guardian’s business section, World Energy, Business Green, Edie, Institutional Real Estate, Infrastructure Intelligence, Current News, Sustainable Times, and the European Council for an Energy Efficient Economy.

The report also won support from Renewable UK and Chris Skidmore MP, the chair of Britain’s Net Zero Review and the former Minister of State for Universities, Science, Research and Innovation who signed Britain’s net zero targets into law.
